Bored Ape Creator Awarded $1.4 Million From Knock-Off NFT Seller

Two artists owe Yuga Labs Inc. $1.4 million plus attorneys’ fees for creating look-alike Bored Ape Yacht Club nonfungible tokens, a California federal judge ruled.

The willful nature of conduct by Rider Ripps and Jeremy Cahen—before and after the lawsuit—justified the substantial award, the US District Court for the Central District of California said in an opinion made public Thursday. The award includes all profits and a maximum $200,000 cybersquatting award over two infringing URLs.
