British fashion brands, such as Burberry, Barbour, and Hunter, are on edge as they anticipate a strict review of their royal warrants within the next two years under eco-conscious King Charles.

The warrants, held by approximately 800 firms supplying the royal households, grant them the privilege of featuring the Royal Arms in their branding. Industry insiders are worried over the review these brands will face regarding their sustainability practices.

Paul Alger, Director of International Affairs at the UK Fashion & Textile Association, stated, “They are all nervous because they recognise the power of the royal warrants and do not want to lose it. They are all very aware of the potential impact of a loss and the messaging that would bring to their brand and product. It could be very negative.”

King Charles, crowned in May after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, has always been supportive of environmental issues. His commitment to addressing climate change and promoting ethical practices in various sectors, including fashion, suggests a closer look at sustainable and ethical business practices for those seeking or renewing royal warrants.

As the fashion industry deals with challenges related to its environmental impact, including substantial global emissions and plastic production, companies brace for extensive inquiries into their sustainability efforts during warrant applications. The industry anticipates a meticulous procedure under the environmentally conscious reign of King Charles.
